To avoid this, you should speak to your doctor who will gradually reduce how often you need to use the lotion until you stop treatment altogether. If you use the lotion more often than you should, or on large areas of the body, it can affect some of your hormones. Usually for adults and children, a few drops of ELOCON Scalp Lotion should be applied to the affected area of the scalp once a day and gently massage until the lotion disappears. Side effects that may happen with inhaled or oral corticosteroids may also occur with corticosteroids used on the skin, especially in infants and children. Excessive, prolonged use of topical corticosteroids can suppress hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal function resulting in secondary adrenal insufficiency which is usually reversible. Healthcare professionals should be aware that if this product comes into contact with dressings, clothing and bedding, the fabric can be easily ignited with a naked flame and is a serious fire hazard.

Elocon Cream is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The active substance is mometasone furoate, each gram contains 1 mg of mometasone furoate. You should not use a large amount of lotion on large areas of the body for a long time . Treated areas on the face should not be covered with a bandage or plaster. Treated areas in children should not be covered with a bandage or plaster. Always use Elocon exactly as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you.

Similarly, sympathomimetics should be used with the lowest dosage that is clinically effective. History of present illness should determine the nature of the discharge and whether discharge is chronic or recurrent. If recurrent, any relation to patient location, season, or exposure to potential triggering allergens should be determined. A unilateral, clear, watery discharge, particularly when following head trauma, can signify cerebrospinal fluid leak. CSF discharge also can occur spontaneously in obese women in their 40s, secondary to idiopathic intracranial hypertension. You should not use a large amount of cream on large areas of the body for a long time .

When treating children, the doctors will recommend milder forms of topical applications and currently, Cutivate and Elocon are deemed to be safer for kids according to recently published results. Cutivate is also the only FDA approved topical steroid for infants of 3 month age range. Allergy rashes can be prevented by avoiding the exposure to the allergy trigger and stopping the use of harsh facial products. Testing is generally not indicated for acute nasal symptoms unless invasive sinusitis is suspected in a diabetic or immunocompromised patient; these patients usually should undergo CT. If a CSF leak is suspected, a sample of the discharge should be tested for the presence of beta-2 transferrin, which is highly specific for CSF.

Long term continuous or inappropriate use of topical steroids can result in the development of rebound flares after stopping treatment . A severe form of rebound flare can develop which takes the form of a dermatitis with intense redness, stinging and burning that can spread beyond the initial treatment area. It is more likely to occur when delicate skin sites such as the face and flexures are treated. Should there be a reoccurrence of the condition within days to weeks after successful treatment a withdrawal reaction should be suspected.

Reapplication should be with caution and specialist advise is recommended in these cases or other treatment options should be considered. During pregnancy treatment with Elocon should be performed only on the physician's order. Then however, the application on large body surface areas or over a prolonged period should be avoided. Topical administration of corticosteroids to pregnant animals can cause abnormalities of foetal development including cleft palate and intra-uterine growth retardation. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies with Elocon in pregnant women and therefore the risk of such effects to the human foetus is unknown. However as with all topically applied glucocorticoids, the possibility that foetal growth may be affected by glucocorticoid passage through the placental barrier should be considered.

Characterisation of metabolites was not feasible owing to the small amounts present in plasma and excreta. Withdrawal reactions - redness of the skin which may extend to areas beyond the initial affected area, burning or stinging sensation, itch, skin peeling, oozing pustules (see section 4.4). If you have been using the lotion for a long time and your scalp problem seems to have got better, you should not suddenly stop using the lotion. If you do, you may find that your scalp becomes red and you may notice stinging and burning.

One should consider referral to a dermatologist for patients with severe seborrhea in whom treatment with oral isotretinoin is contemplated, particularly if long-term therapy will likely be required. Daily shampooing may not be reasonable for some populations, such as black persons or persons who are institutionalized. As a substitute for daily washing, fluocinolone acetonide, 0.01 percent in oil, may be used as a scalp pomade. Other options include application of a moderate- to mid-potency topical corticosteroid in an ointment base.
